    I get a default error page.

    If you mean a hosting error page then you need to park your mapped domain onto your WP install in your hosting control panel.

    thanks for replying Ron. I appreciate the help.

    I’ve already setup parked domains in cpanel (see screenshot on doc above).

    Can you suggest anything else?

    ok finally got it working.
    It looks like I was doing the “domain mapping” in the wrong place. I needed to do it on the dashboard of the “new” site. I then clicked to make it the primary site and all started working.
