Support » Plugin: Video Embed & Thumbnail Generator » Can’t Generate Thumbnails on s3 Hosted videos

  • ghosted

First of all, love the plugin.
The issue I’m having is it can’t generate thumbnails on videos hosted on amazon s3; I was wondering if you’d come across a point like this before?

To be precise it works on videos hosted on the server, but I’m looking to migrate content soon so if you have any suggestions or insight it would be appreciated.
I get the can’t find /usr/local/bin/ffmpeg error and the popup stating it can’t load the video into the browser.

You probably need to set up a Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) policy on S3. If you don’t have FFMPEG installed on your server, my plugin uses your browser’s built-in video decoding capabilities to make thumbnails by drawing the frame onto a canvas HTML element, which is then uploaded to your server. If the video has an origin from a different domain, the canvas is considered “tainted” and won’t allow the plugin to upload to the server for security reasons.

I think you need to allow GET methods, but I don’t know a lot about CORS policy. This should get you started

@kylegilman thanks for the insight. I’ll take a look and if I manage to sort it out, I’ll let you know.
