• Hello,

I’m editing a theme and firebug (firefox extension) shows me paths like:
    http://mysitename.com/wp-content/themes/themename/style.css

Great! So i go into cpanel, file manager -> themes -> themename and… nothing! Directory empty! I find this amazing. I thought the files were hidden somehow but they are not. The theme works perfectly, but i just can’t find the files. I searched for them via search option in cpanel, nothing!

    What’s up?
I don’t want to edit just css files, i want to change images and etc..
    Please help.

  • A couple of thoughts:

    • cpanel may not be showing you the directory you think it should be. All themes must, by definiiton, have at least a style.css file. If that’s missing, then you need to go find it.
    • It’s possible to edit your theme’s files in your browser by using a minimalist builtin editor. Go to Dashboard > Appearance > Editor. Theme select is the dropdown in the top right corner. File selection under that.

I talked further with my hosting and it seems i didn’t see them because i didn’t have ownership/permission.
They made it so that now i can see the files, but there is still an ownership problem thus if i want to change the logo for example, i can’t overwrite logo.png because i get
    “Opperation not permitted”.

My hosting company doesn’t want to 777 all the files for security reasons.
    How can i gain access?

What hosting company are you using? Site link?

Their attitude is sort of Last Century. Modern web serves are easily set up so each account has write access to their own directories. You may want to consider moving to another hosting company. HostGator, GoDaddy, and 1and1.com (to name just 3) all have this stuff setup correctly.
