Simple Facebook Connect
[resolved] can't find fb app ID for fan page (6 posts)

I'm trying to set up my Simple Facebook Connect so that my metatags will work on FB.

The SFC plugin is asking me for:
    Facebook Application ID
    Facebook Application Secret

I have a fan page and my fan page doesn't seem to have this information.

Any pointers on how to find it? I've searched and searched, but can only find tutorials on finding that info for non-fan pages.

    Thanks for your help!

You have to create an FB Application. Follow the instructions it gives you. It won't work without creating an application.

Thanks for your reply Otto. I was away on vacation, but I'm back now and ready to tackle this so my metatags work.

Every time I try to click on these two links on your setup page:
    Can't find your key?

Get a list of your applications from here: Facebook Application List
Select the application you want, then copy and paste the Application Secret and Application ID from there.
Haven't created an application yet? Don't worry, it's easy!

Go to this link to create your application: Facebook Application Setup
After creating the application, put http://anniehearts.com/blog/ in as the Site URL in the Website section.

it redirects me to my FB fan page:

So I tried to go to from there to my apps page, but all I get is the apps I already have. There's no option to add new apps. Even if there was, I don't know which one I should choose.

    Any help is appreciated!

Do you have an actual Facebook account? Not a "company" account, but a personal, real-user, account?

"Company" accounts cannot create apps on Facebook's developer system. You have to be a real person, and verify your identity through their system.

The correct link should be to https://developers.facebook.com/apps and you need to be logged into Facebook to access it.

Well that's the problem right there. I have a company account. And I can't switch it over the a personal account.

Thanks for your help Otto. I guess I'll have to find another solution.

Yeah, but you probably won't find one. Company accounts are very limited in their capabilities. To the point where they cannot be automated, basically.

You'll need to use a personal account, with a verified identity, to do anything of substance on Facebook. All company accounts can do is to post to a single Page, manually.
