Can’t expand Yoast when creating new WP post

    Here’s a screenshot of what I’m dealing with. When trying to create a new post (or update an old one) I can’t expand the Yoast box that you see in the screenshot. So I can’t enter key words, etc. that you’d normally enter into Yoast.

    I’m somewhat fuzzy on the timeline of when this bug started (within the last week), but I did update my WordPress to v5.6 recently. Not sure if the issue started before or after that.

    Has anyone experienced this? Do I need to roll back to a previous version of WordPress?

    Hi,

    We understand the Yoast Metabox is failing to load. We would like some more information.

    1. Are all your non-Yoast plugins and themes also updated?

    2. If you check for JavaScript errors do any appear on that page in the backend? They would appear in red in the console. Can you describe them or take a screenshot? If you are not sure how to look for JavaScript errors please use this guide https://yoast.com/help/how-to-find-javascript-errors-with-your-browsers-console/.

    Hi, having this exact same problem since updating to 15.5 – only updated Yoast plugin when this happened and still on WordPress 5.5.3

    Hi @markurs,

    We see from the screenshot that the JavaScript errors mention Search metadata previews and the Classic editor as well.

    Just to be sure, you can do a test to see if this still happens if you deactivate all plugins except for Yoast SEO and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Nineteen. 

    We recommend doing this on a staging site or using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.

    Since you mentioned the WordPress 5.6 update, it may help to check if activating the Enable jQuery Migrate Helper plugin. Do the errors still appear?

    Hi Priscilla,
    I tried the Enable JQuery Migrate Helper plugin but the errors still appear. Deactivating all plugins did not work either. Yoast 15.4 worked fine with my site, it is only 15.5 which sees the meta boxes not appearing as laurenpacek screenshot shows.

    I’m going to try rolling back to 15.4 to see if this works as this was all that changed between Yoast working well and the subsequent issue with the meta boxes.

    Hi @markurs ,

    We suggest performing the conflict check with the default WordPress theme, enabling Yoast SEO 15.5 first, and if that works, enabling all other plugins one at a time as suggested here: https://yoast.com/help/how-to-check-for-plugin-conflicts/

    Hi Jerlyn,
    I tried with the default theme and enabling plugins one-by-one but this did not help. I am using Firefox and found a solution that details how other Firefox users have had this problem and that the Yoast tabs worked for them in Chrome or a private window. On trying Chrome the tabs were restored, so must be a JS browser issue with Firefox.

    Issue and workaround was reported in Yoast 3.9 here:

    @markurs Thanks for your reply and for posting the workaround. Have you also ensured that the version of Firefox is up to date? Also, if you using any browser extensions, does disabling them resolve the issue?

    Yes Firefox is up to date and the latest version. Disabling browser extensions has no effect.

    Interestingly my other client sites that I have now updated to Yoast 15.5 are working fine in Firefox, it’s just this one that is having issues.
