I’m using the Quade theme by Jinsona for my blog, http://geekmylife.net.
I can’t seem to get YouTube videos to show up in my blog posts. I have tried both the iframe and embed AND “add media” WordPress button, and none of it works. The embed merely turns the video into its link, and the iframe shows up as a big empty space where the video SHOULD be. The “add media” WordPress button in the editor doesn’t do anything but add the link again.
I’ve been noticing there are plugins to help solve this problem. I would prefer not to resort to another plugin install, but I may have to. Is this something that my theme is preventing or is it (apparently) something other users have run into as well and is best fixed with a plugin?
Thanks in advance for any help!
This happens over at WordPress.com and not at WordPress.org self hosted sites (which is what this forums supports). Are you a .com-er?
Nope, not at all. I’m a self-hosted WordPress site through HostGator. This is why I’m so confused as to why it’s not working.
Can you post (in ticks) an example embed code?
Here’s what I tried writing in my post today (in the text editor):
You can see it for yourself here: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/P75YQHFnyKY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Then when I switched to visual editor, it had a big yellow box where the video should be, w/ no video loaded. All previews I loaded of the post had a big, white empty space where the video wasn’t.
When I tried using the WordPress “Add Media -> Insert from URL” function that didn’t work either.
If you are switching between editors that may be stripping out the code.
Have you seen this?
@wpyogi I did NOT see that – I’m sure that will help me out!
@Seacost Web Design No, I haven’t tried the old embed code.
For both of you, let me try each of these and see if it fixes the problem. I’ll let you know.
Youtube embes should be automatic, requiring just the link to the video
The link must be on its own line.
Also, sometimes I have problems with the auto embeds…. it seems to be WP adding link html automatically
If I switch to the text editor when I have the problem and delete the html leaving only the link and then save, the problem goes away.
Hey I’m running into the same issue, were you ever able to resolve it?
@esantiago649 – please start a new thread – this one is outdated – so no longer very relevant. Including more info will make it easier for people to help you too –
