Basically, this does not work. http://codex.wordpress.org/Embeds
When I add a link to media, I just get the url showing up in my post.

    What doesn’t work:

“All you need to do to embed something into a post or page is to post the URL to it into your content area. Make sure that the URL is on its own line and not hyperlinked (clickable when viewing the post).

    For example:

    Check out this cool video:

    That was a cool video.”

Formatting even unintentional formatting can mess with the embedding getting picked up properly.

Just as an experiment see if this embeds when you wrap the URL inside [embed] ... [/embed] like so:

    [embed]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ[/embed]

That should make WordPress explicitly embed the YouTube video. See if that works for you.

Thanks. That’s very helpful. What I didn’t know was that WordPress will only _automatically_ embed if the URL is on a whitelist. The list is fairly short. I didn’t know that there was a code “embed” like you mentioned above, but that does make it work now. Thanks a lot.
