Can't download PDFs from Private Pages

I’m using the WordPress ‘private’ feature to hide pages/posts from the Public for my clients site so that they can have a ‘Dealers Only’ type area for users that are logged in.

I’ve used the User Role Editor plugin to tweak the Subscriber user role so that they can see Private pages and posts and it’s working fine.

My problem is on these Private pages I have placed .pdfs that I want the Subscribers to be able to download, however now that the pages are Private I’m not getting any link action/ability to view or download the PDFs. I’m thinking I have to change a setting somewhere with regards to links, but I’m not finding it.
