I have a brand new wordpress 3.3.1 installation running on localhost. I have no plugins installed. Using the Twenty Eleven theme, I cannot create a submenu. I move the category to the right and when I save the menu, all the submenus shift back to the left and they stay as parent menu items. What am I doing wrong?
Try re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.
Thanks for your reply. OK, I’ve done that. I started again from scratch with a fresh download of wordpress, and a fresh install. I’m still having the menu problem. Any other suggestions?
Anything in your server’s error logs that might help?
I did not see anything in my error logs.
It appears to be a browser issue though. On a hunch I tried to access my site using Firefox (instead of IE9) and then I was able to create the submenus. So while this doesn’t solve the problem, I have a workaround.
Thanks for your help!
Holy moley… I’ve just wasted about an hour with this same issue. I’d drag the subpages into positions, save, and they’d all snap back to toplevel position.
Read this post and changed my browser from Chrome, to Safari and in Safari I was able to create the sub-menus. Go figure.
Chrome was the culprit… but why?
Same problem here with WP 3.2.1. Switched from Chrome to FF and I was able to create the submenu.
Same thing happened to me: Submenu creation stopped working with IE (after working in various sites), and after spending hours, came across this post finally. Switched to FF and voila, submenues created and didn’t snap back as they did in IE.
I am really curious to find out what causes this?
Any input is appreciated!!!
