Can't create page submenus in 2010 navbar

    I want to put “About” on the navigation bar (empty of content), and then as sub-menus three different pages: “About Me”, “About TopicA”, “About TopicB” etc, under that.

    I create the pages, indicate that they’re children of “About” and then go to Appearances/Menu and drag them into place as sub-menus, but when I save those settings they do not stick and the sub-menus move back out to the left margin.

    I know this is possible and cannot figure out what I’m doing wrong. Help!
