  • of all the podcast plugins I looked at for my particular purposes.

Updates to review: the new version looks MUCH better in widget form. The text seems to be inherited properly (in my case, I’m using a dark version of the Escapade theme from GoDaddy, but the white player now has black text of the same or a comparable font and size to what I’ve selected for the theme). The cover art scales nicely. The episode search searches the whole catalog.

However, it does not look any better as a main page element via shortcode. I should say I have not changed any settings to try to improve the look. In any case, the font still comes up as Courier for the podcast and episode titles, and there is now a lot of whitespace between episodes.

Also, the new player has a huge play/pause button in both default and html5 settings and just generally also takes up a lot of space.

    ****************************************
I already have a podcast host (Podbean) and am satisfied for now; I just want to have a feed of my podcast episodes on my site. This does do that, and better than the other free plugins I tried (the few that, upon reading their descriptions, sounded like they would do anything like what I actually wanted).

However, there are three or four things it would be awfully nice to improve:
    – The ability to suppress the cover image altogether. If I don’t specify a cover image, it apparently grabs the one in my RSS feed. Not helpful when I want a nice trim little widget with 1-3 episodes always present in the sidebar or hero spot.
    – The ability to set font size, type, color in the shortcode. There is some sort of banefully random interaction between this plugin and different themes. It looks reasonably good on Fabify, like it inherits the text settings in an expected way, but Fabify is a hateful theme where you have to edit default.css to change colors. (Yes, I’m a newbie.) With the GoDaddy Escapade theme, the text comes out in Courier or some crap.
    – I like dark themes, but the background color for the plugin is white. When I start entering a search term, I can’t see anything, I guess because the font from the theme is white (despite that setting not being used for the rest of the text).
    – Which is okay, because the search only runs on the episodes the plugin shows, which is kind of useless in a lot of instances. Not all, obviously. Still, it would be nice to be able to suppress the search form too.
    – There is this ugly “person plus” (“add user?”) button that appears over the cover art and displays my website’s main menu, or some generic menu with two options (Podcast Website and …). WTH?

Right, that’s five things. I’m a heavy tipper. And really, the core functionality is great. It shows podcasts. I can set the limit to 300 and show my entire catalog. It plays podcasts. It shows and plays podcasts on pages. It shows and plays podcasts on widgets.

    Hello @lordsummer,

Thank you for taking your time to review this plugin in such a detail. I really appreciate. I am working on a new improved version of this plugin and try to incorporate these five points in it.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Thanks for your continued use and testing of this plugin.

I have checked the link of your website, the layout of the player looks really broken. However, I have tested this plugin’s latest version (V1.3) on Escapade theme and it seems working perfectly. Checkout this screenshot. (you have to add skin='dark' in the shortcode to get dark color player).

I suggest you to update to the latest version and check if the layout is still looks broken. If yes, kindly contact me for further assistance.

    Thanks

    Hi @lordsummer,

I checked your website again, It looks like the podcast player entered via shortcode on your website is wrapped within <pre> tag.

I think the shortcode is entered incorrectly. Shortcode is either entered in *code* block or in *preformatted* block.

You must enter shortcode in *Shortcode* block. Following steps should solve the problem,
Go to the post’s edit screen, search for ‘shortcode’ block and enter the shotcode. It should work. If not, please contact me as mentioned above.

    Thanks
