    Sometimes I have been getting notices that tell me there is a saved backup version of a page I start to edit, but I can no longer look at the saved version to compare. The message has a Restore button to supposedly bring back the saved backup. I take a gamble because I can’t see what it might look like but it just refreshes the page and shows me the same information on the page. There used to be a link to compare different versions. The message also says
    “You can use undo and redo in the editor to get the old content back or to return to the restored version.” but where are these buttons or links? They are not in my editor or I have somehow missed seeing them. I checked the Options for the Edit page to see if there was something for saved versions or restore versions that wasn’t selected but there is nothing about that.

    The backup of this post in your browser is different from the version below. This will replace the current editor content with the last backup version. You can use undo and redo in the editor to get the old content back or to return to the restored version.

    There is a button in editor to show / hide more buttons in editor. Try clicking that to see if you can see the undo redo buttons.

    I don’t see a button for show / hide more buttons in the editor. I am seeing all the buttons plus some additional ones I’ve added using the AddQuicktag plugin to help with repeated HTML and CSS bits.

    I am using the Text editor and not the Visual editor. I used to be able to compare previous backed up versions in the Text editor. Does this mean that WordPress only provides this capability in the Visual editor now? If so, the message box about the backed up version being able to be restored isn’t applicable for the Text editor. Shouldn’t WordPress know what editor I’m working with? I don’t even see a toggle for switching from Visual to Text editors but maybe that is because I set “Don’t use visual editor” in my profile.

    I have my config file setting for how many revisions to show set to 5 but I only see those in the pages and not in the posts.
    define('WP_POST_REVISIONS', 5);
    Since that only works for pages, is there a different one for posts (although, it seems like it is for posts)?

    I am using Twenty Seventeen theme and working in Firefox and/or Safari on an iMac. Maybe the undo / redo buttons aren’t designed to work in Firefox?
