I can’t change the slug on my podcast page, trying to change it from /podcast-2 to /podcast. I’ve searched the forums and done as suggested, have deleted all unnecessary pages, trash, removed old slugs, went into my Blue Host account and tried to find any root files, etc.

No Luck, I’m obviously missing something. Can anyone tell me how to resolve this?

    Thanks in advance!

have you checked in the database directly?
    look in the wp_posts table.
you can generally access the database in the cPanel area of Bluehost labeled PHPMYADMIN.

I have and I just double checked……nothing there.

when I visit this “page” it looks unusual
what should be showing on this page?
i get a page not found

what is the “ID” in the database for the podcast page?

Yea, that page is unusual, I’m not sure what it is, I’d like to completely eliminate it. I want to use its slug for /podcast-2/ page.

When I visit it seems to load correctly.

Is this the “ID” you’re looking for? This is the podcast page /podcast-2/

for post id 1578, can you see directly in the database
what is displayed in the post_title column?
what is displayed in the post_name column?
    NOTE: when I visit
    this is what I see….
    No Results Found
The page you requested could not be found. Try refining your search, or use the navigation above to locate the post.”

Yea, the “COMING SOON” is the page. It says no results Found because I haven’t embedded the podcast player into the post yet.

    post_title = Podcast
    post_name = podcast-2

1-Thanks for confirming the post_name and post_title for ID 1578

2-Can you confirm the ID, post_name and post_title for the this page:

I can’t seem to find that url in the database. I see one that is ID 1601, named podcast_page, title Podcast Page.

When I go to it looks like a bunch of html from a previous podcast I had on my site that was deleted. That podcast’s name was Strange Money.

    the post_name is the slug.
the post_name must be unique in the database
assuming no other post_name in your wp-posts table has the text “podcast” in it
you can edit the post_name to remove the “-2” so the slug will be “podcast” for ID 1578

    That’s what I thought too.

There is nothing else in my database that has “podcast” but I can’t seem to remove the “-2”.

Every time I edit it to “podcast”, it simply reverts back to “podcast-2”

-maybe something will be visible if can you export the wp_posts table to review all rows in the post_name column
-how many databases are showing in the area PHPmyAdmin?

are you able to edit any other post_name for another ID?

When we delete posts, they get Trash Status for certain period of time, or we can manually do it by clicking Delete Permanently. The old deleted post in trash still reserves its post slug, that’s why WP appends -2, -3, -4 to same slug that comes after.

This page has easy to understand screenshots

I’ve deleted everything out of the trash and permanently deleted them several days ago. How long does it retain the old slug?

Hi again, I’m sorry I missed the part where you said you already deleted from trash.

After manually clicked Delete Permanently from trash, it should get deleted right away, that post must be gone from database. If the post still there, it means something else is in conflict. I suggest disabling all plugins and try deleting that post and see what’d happen. The first suspect is the podcast plugin, or some kind of sitemap plugin.

Thanks for everyone’s help, this is resolved. Not sure which function/task did it but I was able to change the slug today.
