OK so I just wanted to use my personal business website to post some personal images to share with family since not all use Facebook. Where better than a WP image gallery? So simple. Only it’s not.

The problem: I was hoping that I could just create a page and have the images on it and not have it showing on my website (since this is a business site). I could then share the hidden url with family. But when I created the gallery it AUTOMATICALLY created a menu item on the main nav bar! I didn’t ask it to do that. So then I thought well if I password protect it then at least non-family won’t access the gallery. I did that. It gave the name of the page as the menu item title so I changed the page title in WP Admin to ‘Image gallery’.

I still want to remove the ‘Image gallery’ as a main menu item so I go into my WP admin > appearance > menus and it isn’t listed in the RH Menu Structure despite being listed as a page on the left and showing on the front end. All I want to do is remove it from the main menu.

Also my menu items seems to have been duplicated (see grab again). This must have been caused by NextGen. Now, I have WordPress 4.8.7 and not the latest WordPress 4.9.7 but I don’t see why that should make a difference and I don’t want to upgrade it now just in case something goes wrong and this prevents people I have already sent the link to from seeing the pics.

Any help gratefully received. Thanks. RF

    Hi @richardfullerton!

I’m really sorry to hear about the trouble with your menu. Our plugin will only create a page if you select the option under Gallery > Manage Galleries > [select the gallery to edit] > select the ‘gallery settings’ tab and select to create a page. But it will not create a page on its own when you first upload images into a new (or existing) gallery.

Our plugin doesn’t force a page into a menu, new pages will always show up in the menu navigation unless you choose to hide them by creating a custom menu under Appearance > Menus. This is the default behavior of WordPress (not our plugin). If you’re not seeing all of your pages you’ve *published in your custom menu options, you may need to toggle the ‘see all’ pages option to see the full list. 🙂

    I hope this helps! 🙂

    Thanks!
