Cant Change File Permissions.. please help!

Hiya,

Im having a bit of a problem with a wordpress template that requires me to create a directory within wp-content called thumbnails, and CHMOD it to 755.

(Im new at wordpress and want to convert my current modelling portfolio http://www.xemmarosex.co.uk to wordpress, using this theme) I get the error:

“550 Could not change perms on thumbnails: No such file or directory : /htdocs/wp-content/0755 thumbnails”

when trying to change file permissions using FireFTP. Im sure the answer is within that article however i cant really make head or tail of it, id be very grateful of any help.
