Getting seriously frustrated with bbpress. After trying to post a question for 5 days, and deal with out of date documentation, I am on the verge of giving up and using a different plugin. Can someone please help?!!

This question will not post to your support forum, no matter what I do, I even registered another account and still no joy.

    Hi

I posted here last week, but for some reason my post didn’t appear, so trying again.

I am running bbpress 2.5.1 Buddypress 1.8.1 and WordPress 3.7.1 and having problems finding documentation to support getting my forums (or are they now called groups) to work at http://www.thehouseofdog.co.uk/groups/

No one seems able to post a new topic, not even me. The forums are not clear, you have to select the forums tab to get them up (and then they’re empty because no one can create a new topic) and I just need to know where I can find a manual to set this all up.

I spent 3 hours last Friday trying to find out why the ‘forums’ tab wasn’t displaying in my dashboard, only to discover I’d been looking for something which obviously doesn’t show in the latest bbpress version (but the documentation says it does).

Can someone please help me? I’ve never used wordpress, buddypress or bbpress before and I really need a manual which is up to date!

    Thanks

Firstly, I am not sure why but your posts were blocked by our spam filter on bbpress.org and I have now released them. Akismet can be a little aggressive of users with no history when combined with links in the post.

Using bbPress and BuddyPress you will find most of the forum functionality sits within BuddyPress.

There are a few guides linking from this primary guide here, if you still can’t find what your looking for let me know.

    Cheers,

    Stephen

Sorry, missed the bit on not being able to post 😉

Can try the Repair Tool ‘Remap existing users to default forum roles’ details how to find this are here: http://codex.bbpress.org/repair-forums/

You should indeed also see the Forums, Topics & Replies on the dashboard, you may have a plugin conflict.

To try and resolve conflicts with other plugins please disable all your plugins except bbPress to see if the error persists. Re-enable each plugin one at a time and if things break again you should be able to now know which other plugin is causing the conflict.

    Thank you Stephen

It was the plugin ‘Another wordpress classifieds plugin’ causing a conflict and not allowing the forums tab to appear. I now have all my tabs back at last!

I take it I have to give up on this plugin now and find an alternative for my classifieds, but that’s no major problem as I’m thinking of getting a WPMU subscription soon and will probably use their classfieds plugin anyway.

Thanks for all your help and ending my frustration! 🙂

Cool, glad that you got it sorted.

The conflict is also fixed in an upcoming version which I am not sure if you have access to but the details are here:
