Support » Fixing WordPress » Can’t add page after changing site address (URL) from subdirectory to root

  • Hello,

    finally it’s the time to start my first wordpress site. After struggling too long with excluding the subdirectory in my website URL, I now hope someone can help me.

    I installed wordpress in the directory /www/wp. Everything is fine I can add new pages etc. But when I want to exluce the subdirectory in the URL it throws some errors in my browser console. I changed this:

    • Dashboard -> Settings -> General -> Site Address (URL) -> deleted to subdirectory ‘/wp’
    • Downloaded the .htaccess & index.php via FTP
    • Opened the index.php -> set the subdirectory -> ‘ require __DIR__ . ‘/wp/wp-blog-header.php’; ‘
    • Uploaded both files in the /www folder

    After these steps everything seems to work fine. But when I click Pages -> add new I instantly get errors in the browser console:

    When I ‘publish’ it keeps ‘updating’ and some more errors occure:

    Maybe someone has a solution for this 🙂
    Thank you!

  • Hello,

    Why don’t you try replacing all the old URLs which may be stored in Database.

    Try Better Search & Replace or any such plugin which can help you.

    May be that can be one of the issue with the Old Pages you already created.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks, for your hint.

    I tried it and it changed 4 occurences. Sadly it didn’t work and the site crashed once again
