 * Hi,
 * After spending a day searching and experimenting, I cannot get any plugins to
   activate. I have removed and reuploaded them (ASCII) and have checked permissions.
   I am running on FreeBSD 4.4 with Apache/2.0.50 (FreeBSD) mod_perl/1.99_14 Perl/
   v5.8.4 PHP/4.3.8 as my configuration.
 * I cannot even get HelloDolly to work. When you click on the activate function.
   WP replies that it is activated. But nothing happens. It does not show the option
   to deactivate and in one plugin, a mysql table is to be created upon activation
   and that does not occur.
 * Is there some setting that I am overlooking or a permission that is incorrect?
   All other aspects of WP work great.
 * Thanks,
 * Chris

 * Unfortunately, I don’t have a solution for you — I just wanted to say that I
   have a similar problem, and I’m not sure if our troubles are related.
 * I’ve tried the Post-Levels, ViewLevels, Category Levels, Registered-Only plugins,
   and none of them work properly. For the first three, the hidden posts won’t show
   for ANYONE, and for Registered-Only, it doesn’t restrict anyone. Hello Dolly
   doesn’t appear to work, either.
 * I host my blog on LivingDot, which runs:
    Apache version 1.3.33 (Unix) MySQL
   version 4.0.24-standard PHP version 4.3.11 PERL version 5.8.4
 * I have WP v1.5.1.3
 * Help! I’d love some suggestions.
    Thanks, Nicole

 * Well, I figured out my problem — it had to do with how I was listing the WP URI
   within my cpanel. I have an add-on domain, and it how I had it listed was causing
   the problem. Everything is working properly now.
 * Best luck to you, cshaul.

 * Hi Nicole,
 * Thanks for the update. Can you give a little more detail on how the URI was incorrect?
   It may not be my situation, but I would like to check.
 * Any other ideas from anyone on why the plugins say they activate but do not really?
 * Thanks,
 * Chris

 * Solved it finally!!!
 * Found post [http://weblog.burningbird.net/archives/2004/05/26/slash-problem-in-wordpress-12/](http://weblog.burningbird.net/archives/2004/05/26/slash-problem-in-wordpress-12/)
 * and had to set:
 * php_flag magic_quotes_gpc off
    php_flag magic_quotes_runtime off
 * In my .htaccess file.
 * Once that was done, all was well!! ~~~whew!!!~~~
