• I seem to be making a mistake somewhere. I have downloaded wordpress, changed the wp-config file, downloaded filezilla, yet I still cannot log in to my websites wp-admin page nor connect to my server through filezilla. When i go to http://www.mywebsite.com/wp-admin I see this message:
    Error establishing a database connection

    This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    Are you sure that the database server is running?

    If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

    and through Filezilla
    Command: PASS **********
    Response: 530 Login authentication failed
    Error: Critical error: Could not connect to server

    Im not sure what I am missing or why I am unable to connect.

  • Are you aware of there being three sets of login credentials involved here?

    1a) username & password for server access at your host;
    1b) FileZilla uses the above;
    2) MySQL username & password in wp-config for WordPress database access;
    note: might or might not be the same as for server access (1a, 1b)
    3) WordPress username & password for accessing your site.
