 * Hi,
    I performed an update from 5.1.3 to 5.3 first locally, and now on the server.
   Locally I had no problem, but on the server, I get redirected to `/wp-admin/upgrade.
   php?_wp_http_referer=%2Fwp-admin%2F` every time I try to access the dashboard.
   I found out, that if I change the db_version in the version.php file or in the
   database, I can log in, but I’m sure it’s not the way to solve this. I’ve never
   got to see the “Database update is required” page, so I can’t just push the button
   to update the db. For now, I have changed the version number in version.php file
   from 45805 to 44719 (which was in the options table), so now I can at least log
   in. Cold someone advise please?

 * Apparently the update was incomplete. Since you can log in, try the Re-install
   Now button in Dashboard>Updates. If the problem returns, perform a [manual update](https://wordpress.org/support/article/updating-wordpress/#manual-update)
   to ensure all file versions are correct. Naturally the manual “update” is to
   the same version. The point is to manually put the files in their place.

 * Hello,
    I’ve tried the reinstall twice, and a manual update to 5.3.1 (all files
   and folders except wp-content), all of these had the same effect. After the update/
   reinstall, I can’t access the admin until I change the db version number. Now,
   after the manual update, the system recognizes the update, and shows as I have
   5.3.1 installed. Any other ideas?

 * According to a [diff of DB schema versions](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/changeset?old=46194&old_path=trunk%2Fsrc%2Fwp-admin%2Fincludes%2Fschema.php&new=45805&new_path=trunk%2Fsrc%2Fwp-admin%2Fincludes%2Fschema.php),
   the only notable change from 5.1.3 pertains only to multisite installations.
   You’re probably OK as-is.
 * If you want to invoke the DB upgrade process manually anyway, first backup your
   DB. Log into WP while you can, then revert the version number to what it was.
   The upgrade URL is:
    `{$your_domain}/wp-admin/upgrade.php?step=upgrade_db`

 * I’ve tried the manual upgrade both with the old and the new version in the version.
   php, no luck, it still goes to 404.
    For now I’m going to leave it as is, and
   hope that the future updates would work. Thanks for your help.

 * No problem. I think it’ll work out eventually.

 * Well, an autoupdate broke the site again… Now I don’t see when and why would
   it work out eventually. I was hoping, that a new release would fix the problem,
   but it doesn’t seem like it.

 * [@bcworkz](https://wordpress.org/support/users/bcworkz/) , can you point me to
   another forum/documentation/article/person, that/who would be able to help me
   in this case?
