Support » Localhost Installs » Can't access wp-admin

  • Hey guys,

    First, thank you for the support you give in this forum. It has been really helpful so far.

    Unfortunately, I am facing a problem that I don’t manage to resolve, partly because it is hard to search on it.

    To put things into context, I try to migrate my website from an online server to a localhost, using MAMP on Maverick OS. My theme is X theme.

    After numerous of problems, I finally managed to display the content (but not the layout). Unfortunately, I don’t manage to access wp-admin. When I type localhost:8888/test26/wp-admin, I got the home page. And I notice that I could actually write anything, such as localhost:8888/test26/iwouldbesohappyifitworked/, I still got the home page. The only page that I’ve tried so far that gives me a different result is wp-login: I got the login page, but when I login, it doesn’t do anything.

    Things I have tried to solve the problem in a nutshell:
    – Delete cookied/cache ;
    – Desactivate plugins through phpmyadmin ;
    – Rename wp-content/theme folder. When I did that, localhost:8888/test26 becomes blank
    – Activate debug mode in the file wp-admin. Doesn’t give me any more details.
    – Re write all wordpress files (except wp-admin and wp-content folder), in case one was corrupted.

    I was wondering if the problem could come from a non-ASCII file, but then I don’t really know how to check/change all files in my wordpress folder.

    I really hope you can help me! Thank you.

  • First of all check this link: http://codex.wordpress.org/Login_Trouble
    If the problem still remains then check your wp-admin folder, if it is there.
    Also, try to have fresh default .htaccess file.

    Hope one of the above ideas helps!

    I am having a similar problem.
    After updating WordPress a week ago, I can no longer access my admin page – every time I do I get an error page. I’ve tried clearing cookies and cache but had no luck, and wondering if it’s the update causing the issue. In any case, I can’t access the admin at all to be able to try to fix it.
    I have no idea how to even begin to fix this, and I would appreciate any help!
