  • Your WordPress wp-admin username and password are completely unrelated to your MySQL database logins. These will not work to access wp-admin – wp-admin is accessed using the details you used when you initially installed and setup wordpress.

As for /wp-admin login – that directory does not exist on your install. Check you install via CPanel or FTP – perhaps you’ve renamed wp-admin but it is definitely not there.

Thank you that was rather helpful. I believe I uploaded the admin -login via FTP. My issue now is that I didn’t initially create the site. It was created for me a few years ago by someone else. I just recently had it transferred to my control. So I don’t know the wp-admin info that was initially used to create the site. Is there a way through the FTP that I can find that info anywhere?

I got it finally. I had to randomly guess the login info, but thank you very much for the insight in installing the wp-admin directory. You were extremely helpful.

If you’re in now, make sure your email is attached to your login Users -> All Users so if you have any more issues, click “forgot password” and a new one will be emailed

As for directories, every wordpress install has the following make-up by default in the root directory

    1. Approx 10-15 php files
    2. 3 directories:
    – wp-admin
    – wp-content
    – wp-includes
