I can’t log into my previous account because my email was unrecognized. I had to create a new account which doesn’t have any of our organization’s information.

How do I gain access to this information? Our website is down because of this.

@natewl We did not “delete your ability to log in”.

This website is WordPress.org. It is a totally different website than your website. They’re not the same thing.

Your website once ran the WordPress software… on your own website. Which is different from this website. WordPress is not one big interconnected thing. Every website runs its own software on its own set of servers.

You cannot login here with login information from there, because it is a different website which is not connected to your website. Until you understand this, you’re going to have a hard time understanding what seems to be the problem here.

Now, you had hosting at GoDaddy. If you deleted that hosting completely, then yeah, you’re probably screwed, because that hosting was where your website actually was. If you didn’t delete that hosting but just repointed the DNS, then your website’s files and data are probably still there. Until you access it, we don’t know and we can’t tell you, because we cannot see into your hosting systems.

As for additional information, you haven’t given any. You were asked to gain access to the File Manager and see if any of your website files were still there. Were there any? If so, then you may have hope in recovering them.

    Hello,

Sorry for the delay in giving you a response.

‘public_html’ is the directory where all web applications are stored, even those created using a subdomain.

If you have hired a web hosting, the provider usually gives access to that directory with a File Manager, available in your Client Area.

Due to your situation, I insist: the best thing you can do is to point the domain back to the GoDaddy host and extract all the information you need.

The alternative to this would be to download a copy of the website, install a local server on your computer and upload the copy to have it available locally. Anyway, if you want to try the manual way, here is a guide to make a copy of your wordpress installation and download it to your computer.

This option is for advanced users who have some experience in the field. It usually generates a lot of headaches, so I insist, your best option is the first one (point the domain back to your wordpress hosting (GoDaddy))

In your domain options, there should be a button to restore the default values; this will set the default GoDaddy DNS and at least in 24 hours you will have access again (it is not an instantaneous change).
Once all the information you need has been extracted, you only have to point your domain to the new application you are using.

I did follow the advise given, but when I returned after actually speaking with GoDaddy, with additional questions, no one gave additional “very useful advice and information.”

This is a volunteer forum. This means that maybe not all volunteers have that advanced knowledge or just don’t know how to help you. You must also understand that the people who have decided to help you, as is my case, have lives outside the computer, jobs and families to take care of.

If you find my advice unhelpful, I can’t help you any further. I don’t have access to your hosting account, I don’t know what is the current situation or if the website has been deleted by mistake. What I do have clear, is that if the web is not working is because you decided to point the domain to another application. So, please, change the DNS to your hosting, as you did to point your domain to another application.

    Have a good day. 🙂

@otto42 thank you! No one took the time to explain what wordpress.org actually is, in language that untrained people like me could understand.

I now realize that wordpress.org, has absolutely nothing to do with wordpress.com and should, to clear up confusion for simpletons like me, probably make that more clear. Especially since wordpress (either .org or .com I don’t know, hence the need for clarification) sells itself on being easy to use and no training is required. To get help, one must know, understand, and use the jargon.

@otto42 again, I appreciate you taking the time and removing the jargon. The issue cannot be solved via the forums on wordpress.org.

@natewl We actually have a bit of a video to help explain that:

    Might help.
