[Resolved] Canonical urls showing in head

  • Amit Porwal

    @expertvillagemedia

    Hi

    I am getting lots of bugs in allinone seo. I found that it added rel=canonical in each url of my site which is fluctuating google results as sometimes one page shows up on a keyword and the other day, another page shows up in google listing on same keyword.

    When I unchecked the radio button in backend for canonical urls, the code, <link href=”http://www.expertvillagemedia.com/volusion-store-designer/” rel=”canonical”>

    Also, if I have a different title written in general settings of wordpress, then that title is taken by google. I know that we can set it from allinone seo but I hvnt unchecked it.

    Regards
    Amit

    Amit,

    Yes, All in One SEO Pack has a feature which allows you to set canonical urls on your pages; you may use it or not as you see fit. Also, you may edit your title formats within All in One SEO Pack and choose whether or not you want the name of your blog displaying in it.

    Hello Peter, Thanks for your reply. I know that allinone seo has these features and we can disable them if not needed but problem is, I disabled canonical url feature and its still showing in head tag of all pages. WHy?

    Amit,

    That’s not coming from All in One SEO Pack; if it were, it’d be within the comment tags for All in One SEO Pack. This could be due to another plugin, or it could be coming from WordPress core, which you can disable like so:

    remove_action('wp_head', 'rel_canonical');

    Thanks a ton Peter for your help. That code worked and canonical tag removed from all pages head.
    In your opinion, is it good to have rel=caninical on all pages like I had?
    I think google confused about the pages to show in serp, and displayed a blog post instead of my targetted page.
    That was done for many keywords. Then I identified that something is wrong.

    What do you say.

    Amit,

    It’s good to have consistent canonical urls to cut down on perceived duplicate content; unfortunately this is sometimes hard to measure, but I’d suggest keeping an eye on your Google Webmaster Tools to see how it changes for your site.

    Yes. I prefer to do seo of my site, although I am not an expert but still waiting to see when google will give some preference to my content as almost all pages have good content.

    Can you suggest some improvements on these 2 pages to rank them well in google as they are on page 4 right now for keywords: amazon webstore developer and volusion store designer.

    Amit,

    Good SEO these days is less about specific keywords and more about providing good content that people are interested in; if you blog regularly, I’d suggest linking to those posts when they are relevant to the subject at hand; if you don’t blog regularly, I’d suggest that you start and run a regular blog on a relevant topic where you are (or become) a subject matter expert. This will do more for your SEO, and you’ll probably enjoy it more.

    Thanks Peter. You are right. Whenever we try to build some links manually by article submission or by any means on exact keywords, google just throw that keyword out of 100.

    I have one more request. Can you tell me whats wrong with this page that google dont crawl this page?

    Months ago, I added a 301 redirection on this page to another page, but then I removed but google still takes redirection I think. Please advice.

    Amit,

    I can see that page in Google when I do site:www.expertvillagemedia.com/wordpress/ but in any case you might try asking Google to recrawl it in your Google Webmaster Tools.
