Canonical URL in tags

Hello there.

I have an active tag-archive page. Is necessary to include Canonical URL to tags?
Also, I added the canonical URL into the tags’ URL field of the plugin, but it doesn’t show in front when I view the page source.

@alokstha1 Yoast SEO will automatically create a canonical meta tag for any page/post/archive page and use for it’s canonical value the permalink of that page. Normally, you would leave the Canonical URL value in the plugin blank by default and the canonical tag will automatically be set to the same value as the page’s permalink.

Regarding your issue where the canonical does not appear in the source code, can you please provide us with the URL of the page so that we can review it?

@alokstha1 Also, can you please confirm you are using the most recent Yoast v14.6.1? You can learn more about updating here: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-can-i-update-my-free-plugin/

Can you confirm you are using WordPress 5.4.2? You can check by clicking on the W in the top left and selecting About. If you need to update, please check with your host provider. Please know that if you are using an older version of WordPress Core you may experience unexpected behavior with Yoast. If you update to the most current version of WordPress and Yoast SEO, does this resolve the issue with the canonical not being output?

@alokstha1 Thanks for providing the link. We reviewed the page in question and found it is set to ‘noindex’. Yoast SEO does not output the canonical tag for any page set to ‘noindex.’ This is the intended behavior and you can read more about this here: https://yoast.com/help/canonical-urls-in-wordpress-seo/
