 * Hi, I’m still having trouble updating to version 6.0.16 of wordfence.
 * I’ve never had problems updating a plugin before.
 * I got the following message: “The update cannot be installed because we will
   be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions.
   tmp/configCache.php”
 * I tried changing the configCache.php from 644 to 755. Nothing.
 * Then it was suggested (i’d erroneously posted a question on a resolved topic)
   that I change my caching options to not cache config, then simply delete the
   configCache.php file.
 * I don’t have caching set up through Wordfence. I’m using W3 total cache and I
   don’t have any options about caching config files?
 * I’ve also gone through all my wp files, from admin to each plugin. I don’t see
   any file permissions that have changed at all. I have everything set up either
   as 644 or 755.
 * I also tried activating and deactivating the plugin.
 * I’m sure it is something very simple that I’m failing to see? I hope! I’m still
   very new at this.
 * Thank you,
 * Beatriz Herrera

 * Hi Beatriz,
 * You said that you you’ve tried activating/deactivating the plugin. Did you check
   the option to Remove Table Data? You might want to export your settings if you’ve
   made a lot of customizations before doing this. Removing Wordfence and table
   data will give you a clean slate to try installing 6.0.16 from scratch (i.e.
   not an update install).
 * configCache.php does not have to do with Falcon Caching. It stores Wordfence
   configuration variables to speed up performance.
 * Thanks,
    Brian

 * Hi!
 * Thank you for the advice. It updated finally.
 * In the end I tried (again)
    -exporting my settings as you suggested. then under
   Options/Other options: checked Disable config caching, saved, emptied caches,
   reloaded, then went into my server files, found and deleted configCache.php file
   in wp-content/plugins/wordfence/tmp/configCache.php
 * I’ll keep my eye on it over the next little bit, and if something happens again
   I’ll clear the table data and reload from scratch.
 * But I think it’s ok! thank you!

 * [@jjazzbel](https://wordpress.org/support/users/jjazzbel/): Thanks for confirming
   that it helped — this is relatively rare, but our dev team is aware and working
   on preventing this in future versions.

 * Still happening as recent as your second-to-latest version. I was just able to
   update today by deleting configCache.php file from wp-content/plugins/wordfence/
   tmp/configCache.php –so grateful for having found this post, because I fell into
   a k-hole of other WP update issues that were unrelated.

 * I’ve had the same problem the last few updates on multiple (6 of 8 – all on same
   server) sites I manage. Usually I just delete the plugin and reinstall the latest,
   I found this post and deleted the configCache.php and emptied all caches, but
   its still failing the update
