Cannot Update Plugins – Get a Blank Screen

    I recently decided to start a personal blog, hosted on a LAMP server at my house, which would run Arch Linux. WordPress installed perfectly, except I do not have the ability to update any plugins. When I attempt to authorize FTP access, I get this screen.

    I KNOW FTP works on the server because I have been able to use FileZilla to move around dummy text files.

    Does anyone have any advice
