• Hi,

This is an urgent issue. My client’s site was updated automatically to 3.1. Since then, when you first go to edit a page, all you see is the title (ie – nothing in the post box).

I’m using the most recent version of Safari on Mac OS X Snow Leopard if that matters.

    I’ve discovered 2 things:
    1. When you highlight what appears to be the empty text box, you see all the HTML of the post (ie – it was all white text hidden unless you highlighted).
    2. When you click “HTML,” suddenly you see everything properly (ie – the post with full markup)
    3. Then when you click back on “Visual” you see only the HTML – ie, not WYSIWYG.
    4. To make matters worse, even if i create a new page and make a post in “Visual” mode, once I have posted it and go back to edit, I have the same issue as mentioned.

This is very urgent (as I’m sure most problems are on here :)) as it is for a client with an event coming up very shortly.

Please let me know what you suggest…Thanks so much!!!

  • It seems the same as my problem, can’t edit my page. coz the html mode doesn’t work on update. It works when I publish but doesn’t work when I edit.

Are you using any tinyMCE plugins?

I didn’t ask the question first but
I’ve the same problem.. Wha tis tinyMCE. I don’t think I have that. I upgrade to 3.1 from 3.0.5 and I have a hardtime editing my post and pages.

When I edit it by html mode it doesn’t work, when I switch to Visual it’s okay but the words are not visible on the writing area but visible on the Site. Only the picture or banners are visible on the visual mode.
I will try to deactivate all te plugin and put back one by one and see what happen, this is the advice that I read.

I have a user with the same issue, rolled out 3.1 into production without confirming it actually worked, and discovered the rich-text/html editor was broken. I’ve tried all the steps suggested in the fixes thread, including disabling all plugins and falling back to the default theme. I also tried installing the TinyMCE advanced plugin on the offchance that it would override whatever is not working here, but no dice.

You know what would be nice? Not changing the database schema every point release. This wouldn’t be an issue if I could just revert the changes my user made… </whinge>

I am unable to update when in visual mode on word press. I updated to 3.1 over a week ago and have not had any issues until now. I have made several attempts to solve the problem by deactivating all plug-ins. Did not work. I can save in Html mode, but not in view. I can switch from visual to Html mode, but not back again. Thank you for any assistance.

I had the same problem as the first post, but then I realized that it was Js interference. For me, the trouble plugin was Slideshow Gallery Pro, but it could be any plugin that uses JS, or possibly even the theme. My suggestion is to turn off all plugins and see if it goes away, if yes, then turn them all on one at a time till you find the problem. If not, try switching to 2010 theme with plugins still off, and if it works, try turning all plugins on one at a time.

Cela: I had the same problem. Because the visual mode isn’t loading, it’s not creating a slug for your post until you switch to html mode.

Johansensen: I can’t say for sure what the problem is since you’ve already tried what fixed my problem, but I would suggest downloading an older version of wordpress and copying the tinymyce files from it in place of your tinymyce files. (back up and delete the old ones before you do. Otherwise you may still have a bad js file in your install.)

Peoney: TinyMCE is a program that works hand in hand with wordpress to give you the editor that displays images instead of raw code… among other niceties. It’s installed inside wordpress, but it’s developed by an outside team.

I have the same problem – unable to add a post in visual mode – but ONLY when accessing the backoffice with IE9 on Windows 7. Using Opera (in Windows 7) or IE8 in Windows XP works fine. I am running WP 2.9.1 and do not upgrade, because the cut-and-paste from MS Word in more recent versions is broken.
