    needed to copy templates to main directory.

    At first I’m a little bit confused about which “main directory” that mlclapp mentioned above. The YARPP plugin FAQ’s page actually has the answer:

    If your theme did not ship with YARPP templates, move the files in the yarpp-templates directory which ships with YARPP into your active theme’s main directory. Be sure to move the files (which must be named yarpp-template-….php) to your theme, not the entire directory.

    So, if Display using a custom template file option is greyed out, basically what you have to do is copy the following files from YARPP plugin folder (/plugins/yet-another-related-posts-plugin/yarpp-templates/):

    • yarpp-template-example.php
    • yarpp-template-list.php
    • yarpp-template-photoblog.php
    • yarpp-template-random.php
    • yarpp-template-thumbnail.php
    • yarpp-template-wpml.php

    and paste it to your theme folder (/themes/your-theme-name).

    Now you should be able to select a template file for YARPP plugin.

    When I do what @bitra says – it allows me to select custom templates – HOWEVER the thumbnail template that I want to use then doesn’t work.

    On each live blog post it has the heading “related posts” at the bottom – and in the back end, when I am looking at each post – it suggests there are 3 related posts. BUT when you are actually on the website – at the specific page – it gives you nothing, it also seems to give you a completely incorrect heading (I have select show thumbnail template – it is suggesting I have selected the photo template..)

    @lucy99 which templates are you using? You probably want the yarpp-template-thumbnail option. The photoblog one is for use with a particular plugin called Yet Another Photoblog (YAPB).

    bitra, thank you for your very helpful answer on how to use templates.

    mitcho, great job! But why it is necessary to copy/move the template files into the theme folder? Why not just leave them in the yarpp-template folder?

    @hinjiriyo the YARPP custom template feature is built with developers in mind, who will want to modify those templates. Every time YARPP has an update, WordPress will automatically replace all the files in the yet-another-related-posts-plugin directory, and thus overwrite any changes that have been made there. Thus it’s best that the custom templates live in the site’s theme directory.

    @hinjiriyo you’re welcome. 🙂
