# Cannot save theme customizations

* WordPress 4.9.4 running Modularity Lite theme. All plugins disabled.
* I recently changed domains. I deleted all files from my server and re-added them
from my backup, but did install a fresh installation of wordpress. I have the
site up and running on the new domain and now things like my theme customizations
need to be set again… My header image is now gone. Appearance-> Customize-> Header
Image…. The old one is still saved in my theme, I select it and click publish,
looks like it saved but it never shows up on the live site. I also cannot change
the site title under “site identity”. It lets me change and publish but the changes
never show up on the live site, and the chnages are gone when I go back to the
Customize section of the Appearance tab.
* • Every time I am checking the site after a change is made, I am using a new
incognito window in chrome so cookies and cache are not an issue
• I have disabled
all plugins • I have read other threads about ModSecurity fixes… they did NOT
work for me. I completely disabled ModSecurity on my site to test and it does
not make a difference • I am not getting an error code that says to wait and
try again. Everything looks like it was published, but the changes are never
reflected on the live site.
* I have no idea where to go next. Ideas??

* My apologies, I forgot to include that info in my original post. Here’s the log
from the console section of chrome in developer mode. The log starts with me
clicking on the Customize tab under Appearance in the wordpress editor, and ends
after the publish button has been pressed after adding the header image.

* Not sure what to do with this information. Line 3839 is just the code for the
triggering the error itself:

* The error says to “Use add_theme_support( ‘custom-header’, $args ) instead.”
but I don’t know where that is located and how to “use” it!

* You can also try this: Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of
the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one
to identify the source of your troubles.
* If you cannot access wp-admin, there are other ways to [deactivate plugins](https://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F).
Disable the current theme by renamimg its directory.

* Thanks for the reply, but I have already disabled all plugins as mentioned in
my first post. I tried the 2015 theme, but could not upload an header image,
get this error “An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.”
* I tried switching back to the theme I was using (Modularity Lite) and now it’s
not letting me do so. I really don’t want to mess around with themes I have no
intentions of using. Now I gotta figure out how to get my old theme back, great!!
* Seems like the errors I posted above regarding “add_custom_image_header” is the
key to my issues, but I don’t know what to do with that information. I was hoping
someone might know more about that error and what to do with it.

* I was in the process of doing that yesterday when you replied. Eventually got
the site back up. Still having the problem with theme customizations not saving.

* There may be theme issues but there’s definitely something going on with wordpress
itself. I downgraded to 4.2.2 and my header problem was resolved. I went back
up to the latest version of WP and the header is still there and working fine.
* After downgrading, a screen popped up saying I needed to update the database.
There were a few errors but nothing got held up. I didn’t get a chance to test
this before, but now (and possibly was happening earlier too) I get a white screen
with the following error message when I try to update an edited post:

* This whole mess started when I tried to change domain names. After moving all
the old site files over to the new folder on my server, I had to chance all the
references to OLDDOMAIN to NEWDOMAIN in the database. The way I accomplished
this was by downloading a copy of my database, opening it in notepad++ and doing
a search&replace for OLDDOMAIN with NEWDOMAIN. Re uploaded the database, and
there were a couple of errors but I do not recall what. I’m sure I screwed something
up.
* Another problem I am having is there are no images showing up in my media library
now. I used the Add From Server plugin but this did not fix the problem. I am
also unable to add new images to the library, I get this error:

* Another issue I am having is with GPX files I host on my site using WP GPX Maps
plugin. This creates a shortcode and will display the GPX file in my post. Now
the file does not pull up on my live page and shows this error:

* I check the console, it mentions a missing API key, I replace it and go to save
the settings and get this message on a blank white screen:

* So there’s definitely something going on beyond the theme or a lone plugin. I
think I screwed up something with my database. What a mess.

* Yup, you screwed it up bigly. There’s a lot of serialized data in the database
and a straight search/replace will totally break that. You should have used this
instead: [https://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/](https://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/)
or wp-cli’s “search-replace” command or a plugin like “better search replace”.

* That’s a darn good question. If it were me, I’d try deleting all rows in wp_options
that look like they’re related to theme customizations, then re-entering the
customizations. However, it also looks like you may have screwed up the auto-
index for the wp_options table as well. Google a bit on how to reset the auto-
index value.
* Good luck. Backup your database first.
