[Resolved] Cannot remove widgets from sidebar

  • I have had my hosting account completely wiped and have just installed a fresh copy of wordpress. I changed my theme, changed the background colour and added the header. I went to edit the sidebar widgets which are currently pages, archives, meta and search but none of these are appearing in the sidebar in the widgets editing page so I have no way of removing them.

    What could be the problem?

The theme you are using probably has these things hard coded in the sidebar if “no widgets” are selected. Try adding a widget and see if the items in the sidebar disappear. If so, then that’s how the theme is set up, if not, then the theme has these sections hard coded.

If something else, happens, please provide a link to your site.

    Ah, thank you Christine!

I added a widget like you said and the other sidebar items disappeared. You were right, the theme has pages, archives and search hard coded in the sidebar when no widgets are selected.

    Thanks again!
