# Cannot remove open left column

 * Something I did, I’m sure.
 * How do I remove the wide open left column from this WordPress site?
    Have several
   WordPress sites, but this is the only one with my goofup. How may I remove the
   LH column please? Have tried for days to no avail.
 * Not an expert, so please make any solution ‘newby’ proof.

 * are you referring to the black left column with menus etc?
 * you could hide the column, and stretch the content, using just CSS;
 * start by adding some styles like these to your site, for example via a [‘custom CSS’ plugin](https://wordpress.org/plugins/search.php?q=custom+css):
 *     ```
       .site:before { width: 0; }
       #secondary { display: none; }
       .site-content, .site-main .widecolumn { margin-left: 0px; }
       .site-content .entry-header, .site-content .entry-content, .site-content .entry-summary, .site-content .entry-meta, .page-content { max-width: 696px; }
       ```

 * First, thank you for your quick response.
 * Michael, trying to work out where to insert the code you so kindly supplied, 
   made my eyes glaze over as it far exceeds my knowledge level. In fact, I wouldn’t
   even know where to place it in WordPress.
    At 82 ones technical skills seem to
   diminish a little – or a lot! To clarify. When younger, I could fly extremely
   fast aircraft, but not fix them.
 * I assume that some nefarious mischief maker could enter through the black left
   column, to which you refer, as it seems wide open at the moment. It might be 
   better, in the long run, to delete the whole thing and start all over again. 
   Unfortunately, I’m not even sure how to do that! Also, I would like to salvage
   the themes [listed below], if possible.
 * Hoping I have not totally confused both of you with my myriad problems. Below,
   please find a list of the current installed [themes; my present WordPress websites all but the children’s toy one, seem to function reasonably well and all without the wide-open black column on the left.
