Can you make sure you are clicking the save button after unchecking the box?

Yes sure I click the save button… and I have a message saying that the parameters have been saved…
Hi @byothe
If I try replicate the issue it works fine. I can uncheck the Disable ability to edit PHP files checkbox.
It writes in wp-config.php define(‘DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT’, true); so you may make it false for file manager to allow edit files.

Hi,
I checked in wp-config… Didn’t find DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT :/
Hi @byothe
If in wp-config.php DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT is not there can you make sure that wp-config.php have proper rights to write the file. because enabling / disabling the “Disable ability to edit PHP files:” updates constant DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT .
As you do not have DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT in wp-config.php and still file manager disabled edit the file then it seems the file system rights issue. an you make sure the files have proper permissions.

is it a setting in AIOWP ?
Hi @byothe
File manager permission is a Operating system stuff. It is not a setting in AIOS plugin.

I have this exact same issue. Even if I deselect and save, the the box re-checks itself (overwriting my selection). I don’t have the disallow line in wp-config either. My editing issues were fine until a recent update of this plugin.

@20something thanks for your testimonial… the explanation of the support is anything but clear on this question 😉
I agree. This is clearly a plugin issue if the plugin won’t allow you to de-select that box. I tried deactivating the plugin but that did not work. I haven’t changed my user permissions in years and it’s still 644 for wp-config. This is a problem. I can’t edit any theme or plugin files right now because of this. Hopefully plugin support can help, but if you find a fix, please share.
Hi @20something
DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT should be set false in wp-config.php for file edits to work. if enabled by AIOS plugin and it do not work.
@byothe
I have tried replicate the same issue in 2 – 3 installed live sites but it works there so seems not the general issue.
But as you both have similar issue there should be some configuration / settings making this issue. Which server are you nginx / apache / light speed using ?
Can you export your AIOS settings and send it privately via our premium support (use order number 0000 and link to this support ticket):

Ok thanks,
I have done it…
The server is LightSpeed…
where do I export settings?
using Apache. I do not have the disallow_file_edit in wp-config.
Maybe related – I’m getting the message in my dash…

I figured out how to export setting and submitted a ticket. Using the latest version of the plugin and wordpress. I haven’t been in the plugin for at least a year, haven’t edited my wp-config file and don’t have any other security plugin, so something happened automatically with the plugin update.
Update: AIOS was not the culprit.
It was a new setting “Disable the built-in file editors” that was automatically checked in the “Really Simple SSL” plugin.
Thanks for your help.
