# Cannot Open wp-admin/install.php After Install

 * Server: Windows 2008 Enterprise SP2 64-bit
 * Have successfully installed PHP ([Check Here](http://www.matthewkaiser.com/blog/wp-admin/phptest.php))
   and MySQL Essential 5.1.44.
 * I have updated wp-config.php with the database name I created in MySQL, the database
user name and password, and left the database hostname as localhost. All settings
confirmed using the status command in MySQL.
 * WordPress was installed into a folder under the root of my site, at [http://www.matthewkaiser.com/blog](http://www.matthewkaiser.com/blog).
 * When I try to open the wp-admin/install.php page, I get `500 – Internal server
   error.
There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot
   be displayed.`
 * Any help would be greatly appreciated, and yes, this is my first venture into
OSS! And I don’t care if you’re kind to a newbie, I just want help. 🙂

 * Have you tried re-uploading everything from a **fresh** download of WordPress?

 * I did everything **fresh** today, never had done it before, on the server. The
server is completely under my control. I will not lose anything if I remove what
I’ve done and do it all again, I just don’t think anything will be different,
   but I’ll try. Thanks.

 * **Fixed**! In the absence of a working blog installation as a reference point,
I went back to the database and deleted (dropped) everything related to my new
installation. I dropped the database and user I had created for the blog, and
started over. I created the database, created the user, and granted permissions
to the user on the new database, and now I can get to the WordPress installation
   page!
 * Thanks for allowing me to think out loud!

 * Oh, I forgot to post what I think was the REAL problem. I had to change my DB_HOST
to the IP address of my server (locally assigned to the network card) as I guess
local host was not identified correctly; may need to update the hosts file, which
I will try later, but at least know that using an IP address is very useful!
