# Cannot Modify Header Error

 * Just began getting a “Warning: Cannot modify header” error when trying to upload
   pictures in the write post panel.
    Have not made any recent upgrades and had 
   been running smoothely for a long time.
 * The specific error reads as follows
    The upload file could not be moved to /home/
   xxxx/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2007/12 **Warning** Cannot modify header 
   information – headers already sent by *output started at /home/xxxx/public_html/
   wp-admin/admin-functions.php:1879 in /home/xxxx/pubilc_html/wp-includes/functions.
   php on line 1219
 * I understand the usual cause is an extra space in the admin-functions.php code.
   I checked that found nothing. I held delete and rewrote the ?> closing tag just
   in case but that did nothing.
 * I checked server permissions for all the files and they were set to allow access
   to write to the folder, so all good there.
 * I also note that the listed problem is on a line 1879 that does not exist.
 * My webhost crashed the server recently and I am guessing some files got corrupted.
   Oddly, however, things were working fine in the interim period since.
 * My next idea is to try and put in a clean admin-functions.php file just in case
   that got corrupted. Won’t get to try that until tomorrow.
 * If anyone has ideas or has experienced this before would appreciate any insights.
   I saw a lot of posts in the forum for similar errors but nothing so far seems
   to provide a solution that will work for me.

 * note: i’m running 2.1.2. I plan to upgrade but have to test plugins and make 
   theme adjustments before i can do that safely. Haven’t wanted to mess with a 
   solid installation that’s running well…even if 2.3 adds a lot of value.

 * The problem appears to be on line 1879 of `admin-functions.php` . See [this FAQ](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_do_I_solve_the_Headers_already_sent_warning_problem.3F)

 * macmanx, thanks for the note. As noted in the post, I read the same faq and tried
   that. Also, there is no line 1879 in admin-functions.php

 * For those encountering this problem in the future – if you recently did server
   work, or your web host made changes, check that configuration and access permissions
   weren’t altered during the process.
 * My efforts to fix this problem on my own weren’t working. I contacted my hosting
   provider and found they had accidentally altered some of the access provisions
   and I was unable to change them myself. A few corrections on their part and all
   was fixed.
