  • Persistent login difficulties after upgrading

After upgrading from 2.6.2 to 2.6.3 with filezilla latest version,
I was not able to login.
On attempting to correct, something got messed up and

I could not see the site.
I deleted the database from cpanel and restored it from backup.
wp-config gave errors, until I found the previous one and I could see the site online.

However, I was not able to login.
I had to use emergency recovery from village-idiot org to change password and I could login.

When I thought all was okay,
I added a ‘new user’ with administration profile and deleted ‘admin’.
I made a mistake in not transferring all the earlier posts to new user.

When I restored the posts from WP backup of admin, they clustered without category.
    Immediate Problem
Now I see only one page and
    all links show 404.
    I cannot login.

    What have I tried
    I have gone through
    codex.wordpress.domain/Login_Trouble and
7 pages on the topic of upgrade in WP forum at
    wordpress org/support/topic/188964/page/7?replies=192
    cPanel Version11.23.3-STABLE
    cPanel Build25971
    Apache version2.2.9 (Unix)
    PHP version5.2.5
    MySQL version5.0.51a-community
    Operating system Linux

Shall I again delete the database and restore?
What is the way I should proceed?
