• Good morning,

I just published a new article linking it to the chosen primary category. Unfortunately the article is not linked to the primary category I input in the article.

Can you please help me to fix it?

Your article appears to be in the “Senza categoria” category (white text on blue button above title) This is often the default category assigned when the post’s author doesn’t select anything. This default can be changed in the writing settings.

Are you saying you selected a different category in settings and still “Senza categoria” is automatically assigned?

You of course can select something else in the post editor. But if the selected default is not assigned when no other category is selected, it’s likely due to interference from your theme or a plugin.

Thank you for your reply @bcworkz.

Actually I selected its proper category to the post in the settings, but the assignment does not result. I think there is only one plugin, installed, expired but not renewed. It is Yoast premium and I’m checking with Yoast. There are no other options to check if WordPress is interfered with. Even reading the code I mean. Because at the moment I’m not interested to renew Yoast plugin.

I agree Yoast is unlikely the cause, but stranger things have happened. You can temporarily deactivate it as a test to be sure. Your Newspaper theme is also unlikely, but again you could temporarily switch to one of the default Twenty* themes to be sure. If the same problem occurs with no active plugins and a default theme, then the problem is either because your WP installation has become corrupted, or the problem is external to WP. Sometimes the server’s modSecurity or similar security measures will cause strange behavior.

Another thing you could try is in setting the desired category from the quick edit dialog (from the action link on the posts list table).

If you suspect your installation has become corrupted, perform a manual “update”, even if it’s to the same version. The point is to refresh all the files from a fresh download.
