# Cannot install WordPress 4.9

 * I have been trying since yesterday evening to upgrade my site to 4.9. I have 
   tried deactivating the plugins, installing manually and tried multiple times 
   to update in the site itself. I have never had this problem until this version.
   Every time I get a different error message with installation failed. Everything
   from cannot copy this file or cannot establish directory. i am at my wit’s end.
   My site works fine but I’d like to update. Any recommendations?

 * If you haven’t tried, try **MANUALLY** updating. [Download WordPress](https://wordpress.org/download/)
   again and unzip it. Access your server via [SFTP or FTP](https://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients),
   or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting
   provider’s documentation for specifics on these), and delete then replace your
   copies of everything on the server **except** the wp-config.php file and the /
   wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively
   replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Please
   read the [Manual Update](http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update)
   directions first.
