I’m attempted to create a new table by importing a CSV or XLSX (I’ve tried both). I have done this successfully in the past, but we only do this once a year. It will let me upload the file and looks like it’s importing it, but after that nothing works. After the “import” the table’s edit screen looks like this:

    https://heritagegrowers.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Tablepress-backend-no-content.jpg

And if I try to do anything at all with it, it just hangs. If I try to go back to the Edit screen later, it just churns until I get a Page Not Responding message. If I copy the shortcode and put it onto a test page, the test page ends up with a fatal error on both the front and back end (yet I never get the error email).

I can copy and paste data directly in, but I can’t import anything. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    Hi!

Thanks for your post and sorry for the trouble!

I’m not exactly sure, but this could mean that the import somehow import this table as “too big”, i.e. it doesn’t fully recognize its structure.

In order for me to investigate this, can you make the Excel and CSV files available, e.g for download or by sending them via email (you can use the yellow button on https://tablepress.org/pricing/ ).

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

Thanks for the response! It’s not a big table at all, but I will send you a copy at the email you linked to now.

    Hi @cmerrick,

Thanks for the email with the files. As already replied in the email, it looks like there’s some extra content (probably some accidental copy/paste) in the Excel file, which gives the table very many columns. Once you clean that up, e.g. by copy/pasting the desired cells into a new file, things should work again, as outlined in the email reply 🙂

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

P.S.: In case you haven’t, please rate TablePress in the plugin directory. Thanks!

How odd, it never occurred to me to look dozens of columns over (the spreadsheet was supplied by a client). Next time I’ll do as you suggest and copy over just the cells I need to a new file. Thank you very much for looking into this!
