login via ftp, check the .htaccess file in your webroot folder and there u find the url where u can login
Where? Details please?
I also have this problem and see no url in my .htaccess which references an alternative login.
My (former) file is here if you’d like to inspect it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dgo0yf6jfe1cmi7/htaccess%20from%20wordpress%20with%20beter%20wp%20security%20copy.rtf
I’m in the same boat;
I wanted to hide the admin link and change it from
http://www.website.com/wp-admin
to
http://www.website.com/secure-admin
the problem is that now each time I true to use the log in URL above its redirecting me to the root home page:
http://www.website.com/
Kind of weird, any ideas on how to get in there?
I replaced the contents of my .htaccess file with the default recommended by WordPress (via FTP): https://codex.wordpress.org/htaccess. Then I logged in normally and deactivated “better WP security”.
Honestly, if these steps (taken by “better WP security”) were really required, why would’t WP include them in the default build?
FWIW, previously I could log in using the “log in” link on the site, and it logged me in to http://sitename/wp-admin00000000 (appended with about 8 random numbers). I have no idea how these numbers were being generated, but it was not a “feature” I turned on.
So, I have a similar problem. I think it is to do with WP-security.
I have the /wp-admin/ url changed to something more secure /admin-secure/
Two weeks ago when I last logged in everything was lovely. Also updated both WP-security and WP. Today, going to the log-in page I get a 404 (I can access the website just fine).
Even though the /wp-login.php?(WPrandomSecurityKey) is correct.
I tried rewriting the .htaccess file through ftp but then the whole website becomes inaccessible.
I’m stumped guys. any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.
Hmm. So I actually got it working again..
What I did was renamed the plugins/better-wp-security/ folder and then the login url started working again. And after renaming the folder back to it’s original name the login url kept working.
Just turning it off and on again seemed to do the trick.
It appears from the posts I’ve read on this forum, most are for sites with the .org extension. My problem is a tad bit different. I added this plugin to my website for security because it’s a business site with a .com extension. I cannot get into the back office with wp-admin. I see all these suggestions and am not sure how to follow any of them if I cannot get into the back office.
I went through the flags to “Fix It”/fix the problems. You can still get to my website but it appears I locked myself out from my own back office. I cannot log in to edit or make additions to my business site.
Any suggestions or advice would be most appreciative. Thanks
