I have a new site set up and I have the following shipping zone configuration:

    Zone Name: Zone1
I have set this to the region “New South Wales” (Australia)
Then I have specified a range of postcodes for this zone.
Anyway I then set up shipping methods:
    1) Local Pickup
    2) Free Delivery

The free delivery shipping method I set “Free shipping requires…” to “A minimum order amount” and in the “Minimum Order Amount” field I set $50.00.

I then created a second zone (Zone2) which would only offer Local Pickup to all other locations outside the postcode range I specified in zone1. It doesn’t work. Do I need to individually add postcodes to zone 2 which were not in zone1 or can I somehow tell it to use zone2 for ALL postcodes, not in zone1?

    Can anyone assist with this?

  • That is a great question. Each customer will match only one shipping zone. When you create them, they’ll form a list like this:

    shipping zones

WooCommerce will try to match customers to a zone starting from the top of that list. If they match, then the zones below it won’t be used. If they don’t match, then the next zone will be tried and so on.

So if you want to offer two shipping zones, one that includes a few postcodes and then another that excludes those, here’s how to do that.

First, create the zone for these postcodes that will be excluded later on. After you’ve created it, add a shipping method to it.

Next, create the other shipping zone. For the “region” you would use the larger area like the state or country where you’re shipping. Add a shipping method here too.

After everything is saved, if a customer has a postcode from the first zone, they should see the shipping options for it. If they don’t have one of those postcodes, then the second zone’s options should be there.

Let us know if that doesn’t solve the problem for you.

Thank you! The part I was getting wrong was the order of the shipping zones. Once i switched those around it is now working.
    Thank you again.
