Support » Fixing WordPress » Cannot enable XML-RPC; mentioned configuration options are not there

  • Many on-line guides (like this one: says to simply go to “Settings” > “Writing” and under “Remote Publishing” to check the “XML-RPC protocol” checkbox.

The problem is that I don’t have it, neither the “Remote Publishing” section, nor the mentioned checkbox. My whole “Writing” group has only three options: “Formatting”, “Default Post Category” and “Default Post Format”.

I managed to enable XML-RPC for my blog the other ways, but I still wonder, what am I missing? Why I don’t have appropriate option for enabling XML-RPC in my blogs’ dashboard (“Settings” section)?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • XML-RPC functionality is turned on by default since WordPress 3.5.
some hosting with custom WordPress may use the enable in a different way with the menu or htaccess configurations etc.
even reverse proxies or proxies may block requests to XML-RPC file.

Does this mean that since WordPress 3.5 there is no checkbox mentioned in my question (and the linked guide is seriously out-dated)? And that this is OK that I don’t see corresponding option in Settings > Writing?

This seems to be hard to believe. We have WordPress 5.3 and the option is gone since 3.5 and they haven’t updated the guide at so far?
