No, posts are not deleted. It would be helpful if you replied to your topic explaining your solution — that helps the next person.
Posts should be able to be deleted by the author. That is just standard practice. Of course, posts should not be deleted (by someone else).
So now, I’m likely to get responses from MY post that I want to delete telling me that the solution I laid out did not work. …. great
If you want to unsubscribe from a topic so that you don’t get emails about it, then you can go here: https://wordpress.org/support/users/sellerto/subscriptions/
But no, there is no way to delete posts once you have made them. We will not be adding such a feature.
Hi Otto,
Can you think really carefully about this please? The world of IT is complicated enough and these forums are invaluable; however, it is quite common for someone to assist with a query and outline a solution only to find out that the solution provided wasn’t entirely correct or should be amended. Someone will, no doubt, stumble across the incorrect response only to find out that it is not working. Naturally, that person will reply stating that the solution does not work creating an unnecessary response which could have been rectified by the owner of the incorrect response if he or she had sufficient rights to delete or amend his response. This is logical, no?
Regards,
Shôn
These forums have been here for about 15 years now. Deleting and editing your posts haven’t been available that whole time. So, yeah, think we’re pretty comfortable with the way they work now.
Deleting and editing makes threads less valuable, because people remove their content and thus make the thread more confusing over time. Look at any old reddit thread where people have used tools to delete all their past posts. Maintaining the history of the forums is important, so other than the editing available to anybody in the first hour after they make a post, we’re not going to add editing or deleting of older content.
