cannot create a working network sub-directory with 3.0.2

  • I have tried fresh installs of wordpress 3.0.1 and 3.0.2 on both Yahoo and DreamHost servers. Both will install and run the main blog o.k. However, neither will run a network sub-directory site. They will both allow me to create one that shows up in the SuperAdmin Site menu where I can edit its options. However, when I try to go to any page in the network sub-directory site, I get a “page not found” error on both servers.

So my question is this has anyone successfully completed a clean install of wordpress 3.0.2 on Yahoo or DreamHost with working network sub-directory sites?

I have followed the instructions at http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network many times on both servers to no avail.

My main blog site is http://www.teaching-tech.net/
    network sub-directory site is http://www.teaching-tech.net/ia

I have also been in contact with DreamHost and they are aware of the (mixed code)problem described here http://wordpress.org/support/topic/fatal-error-for-function-get_post_format?replies=10#post-1815726

DreamHost has checked Mod-Rewrite and claim everything is good on their end.

When I use default permalinks my sub-directory site displays the main site. When I use any other permalinks, all I get when trying to go to the sub-directory site is a ‘page can not be found’ error.

My .htaccess file is exactly the same as the one listed for subfolders on http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network and this is exactly the same as what wordpress itself had me copy to the .htaccess file.

wordpress is not in any folder it is installed in root of site

Any help would be much appreciated
