Cannot access site, file permission problem

    @weluvujoe11

    Hi,

    I have been havin this problem since yesterday with my blog. I was trying to set up permalinks and had to edit my htaccess file to do so, but when I tried, I was suddenly gettin 403 forbidden error on my blog site. I checked the error log and it said that it could access the .htaccess file so i changed the file permissions. I no longer get an 403 error but just a blank page on my site. I think I may have changed more file permissions whilst messing around trying to get permalinks working.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?? Would it be possible to simply copy all the files from a new wordpress installation and keep my current database??

    Any advise would be grateful (and I know I did a silly thing messing with htaccess and other files but permalinks are just hard to get working! )

    Thanks very much 🙂

    @esmi

    Try deleting the .htaccess file.

    Hi,

    Revert back the permissions of htaccess file and change the desired permalinks which you want for your blog..and nadd thsi code in htaccess file:

    # BEGIN WordPress

    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    ErrorDocument 404 /index.php?error=404
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>

    # END WordPress

    Thanks,

    Shane G.
