• After upgrading a few months back I lost the ability to go to pages like http://brownsista.com/page/2/ and things like that. When trying to access these other pages I get the front page all over again. This problem however only exists when using my magazine style blog design. If I used the default theme all is fine. I can’t for the life of me figure out what is wrong. If anyone can help I would be most appreciative.

    Thanks

  • You need a coding change. Did you ever modify a query_posts statement on the front page?

    Thanks for responding… πŸ™‚

No I did not. I never made any changes to my themes’s coding on my own.

Update: I have looked in my index.php, page-home.php and functions.php files and none of them have the words “query_posts”.

If you like, post your index.php and page-home.php files in the oaste bin at http://wordpress.pastebin.com/ and put the URL’s here

What you are reporting is a pretty common issue,

    Hi

After upgrading a few months back I lost the ability to go to pages like http://brownsista.com/page/2/ and things like that. When trying to access these other pages I get the front page all over again.

I see that when I click that link I do get the home page. But can you send me the URL of a page 1, the page you do see that has the bad link to page 2 at its bottom? I’m not finding one.
    thanks

I’m not getting what you call a “bad link.” Its not like page 1 looks like page 2 or something like that, a problem I have seen with some other posters here. When I type in the link to page 1, 2, ext, I simply get the front page all over again.

I first noticed the problem when I tried to install a pagination plugin to make it easier for visitors to find older posts. It never went beyond the front page.

I hope I answered your question properly πŸ™‚

Yes I understand what the issue is. I want to see the location of one of these links that doesn’t go to page two but instead brings up the home page. That is what I am calling a bad link, as it doesn’t behave as intended. So please send me the URL of a page that has this issue, and point out where on the page the link that doesn’t work correctly is located.

    thanks

I have included that link above, http://brownsista.com/page/2/ shows the homepage when it should show a page similar to this http://brownsista.com/category/black-female-celebrities/ .

I can’t “point out where on the page the link that doesn’t work is located” because… well, I just don’t understand what you mean by that.

The whole page/link just doesn’t go where its suppose to.

    πŸ™‚

What link on your home page do i click to get to a page that has a page 2 that is not coming up correctly?

    Thread Starter Newchik

    (@newchik)

The “Recent Articles” link right under the logo used to be linked to http://brownsista.com/page/2/ but of course page 2 doesn’t work. All the other page links work, such as this category link http://brownsista.com/category/black-female-celebrities/page/2/ .

Also, this problem is only seen on my present theme. If I switch over to the default wordpress theme I can click on the “Older Entries” link and it will lead to page 2 and so on.

I hope I made sense. You cannot click on any link on the front page that leads to page 2, you have to type it in and of course it just leads to the home/front page. My recent articles link used to but once I realized it no longer lead to page 2 but rather back to the front page, I changed it to link to the default category.

That is a hardcoded link to your category “black-female-celebrities” and not a pagination link. Your theme does not have pagination for the homepage. Where would you like the pagation links to appear, next to “recent articles” or under the “recent articles” section or at the bottom of the page?

    Thread Starter Newchik

    (@newchik)

I would like the pagination to appear at the bottom, right above the banner. In the end I am looking to do the type of pagination you see here on this website… at the bottom.

Btw, sorry if I didn’t get what was being asked of me earlier πŸ™‚

It’s always tricky to get pagination right, especially on a page with so many loops. But I will give it a shot. Can you put your theme’s category.php (if you have one) or archive.php in the pastebin so we can match the formatting on all the next pages. I will give it a shot

    Thank you πŸ™‚

    Here is archives.php
