Cancel registration based on conditions

Hello,

I’d like to cancel the registration if a custom field is not validated.

The process would be as follows :
– The user fills in the form and clicks on “Submit”
– A hook (which one ?) is triggered before the registration is completed and the user inserted into the database
– My custom code retrieves the form, and checks the data sent by the user
– If a custom field isn’t validated by my code, an error is returned and the registration is cancelled

Would that be possible ? If yes, how so ?
