  • I need to backup my MySQL database before upgrading my site from 2.5 to 2.6.

This is really embarrassing, but I have a few different MySQL databases on my Dreamhost server, and I no longer remember which one is tied to my website.

In a perfect world, I would think the WordPress control panel for my website would show me the relevant info for the database it’s connected to, so I could then access the database through cocoaMySQL or whatever and back it up. But I’ve dug into the control panel and don’t see an option to reveal the database my site is linked to. Is this info obtainable through the control panel, or is there some other easy way to find out the MySQL database a given WordPress site is relying on?

  • Just take a look into that blog’s wp-config.php file. That’ll have the db name and table-prefix listed so you’ll not only know what database but also what set of tables (if you have more than one blog/app in there) you’re after.
