I’ve been reading the forum and see there are questions similar to this, but the users seem to end up with a sub directory or redirect solution that I don’t think will work out well for me.

I need to install WP multi in the base directory: mydomain.com

    So that I can have:
    ClientA.mydomain.com
    ClientB.mydomain.com
    etc.

The problem is that I need to install forum software in that base directory as well in order for the forum software to work properly.

Could I install WP as normal in that root directory, then change file names (index.php?) so that it does not load when that directory is accessesed, (while I would still be able to access the main interface by accessing the modified file name) and the forum software can load instead.

Does this sound like it will work?

    Thank You,

    Jamie

No. If you rename index.php it all goes blaaaaargh.

I’d probably shift the forums up a level (to domain.com/forums) and use the first site on WP as a static page that redirects to the forums.

Thanks for your response. What I am trying to achieve is the same look for the site header / link bar across the site, such as what I did on this site:

    http://www.willysjeep.com/

On that site, the blog is actually running on a sub domain, and a php script scrapes it every time it loads and renders it via the forums content system.

So if I want to have that header / link bar show on my main page the same as my other pages, is my only option then to attempt to re-create the look in WordPress, with the actual forum all living in the /forum directory?

I’ve been looking at some WordPress home pages, and it looks like you can get pretty creative with WordPress, so I don’t see any reason why I can’t duplicate the look of my forums header / link bar in WordPress, do you?

    Thanks

    Jamie

    Oh. That’s different 🙂

I was talking about the limitations of WordPress MultiSite and subdomains. Which is “They don’t work unless you’re in root.”

But yes, you can totally theme your WP install to have the same header/link bar 🙂 I did it so my site, which runs WordPress, zenPhoto and MediaWiki all looks the same. Just takes patience.
