 * Hi all, I’ve installed WP1.5 and am feeling my way so to speak.
    My next project
is for a non-profit organisation that organises dance (as in ballet) classes.
They need a website they can upgrade themselves and the budget is non-existent.
I’ve already installed and messed around with textpattern and expression engine
but still haven’t decided. Could I use wordpress to do this?: -a few static pages
with some fixed info about the project -3 dynamic parts/sections: news, schedules
and auditions; preferably on distinct pages (different URL’s) -they want visitors
to be able to comment (that’s probably a doozie) in every section. I’m good at
the XHTML/CSS part but know (as yet) very little of php. Oh yeah, as much as
I like Kubrick, I’m doing a completely different design. Can I code my page and
then drop in the tags (like you can in pmachine for example)? I know I’m asking
a lot but I just want to make sure before I commit 😉

 * Yes to all of it.

 * With 1.5’s theme engine and page capabilities, a little custom programming in
the theme’s pages could handle this 🙂 Along with intelligent categories, of
   course 😉

 * Okay. First Bullet = Yes, one of the best and most significant functions of 1.5
is to be able to create static pages.
 * Second Bullet = Possibly…but might require some experience. I’m not really sure
about this and will leave it to others.
 * The third count is again a good feature of WordPress, the comment function. It’s
easy to use, moderate, and to modify. Finally, yes, it’s amazingly easy to do
your own wordpress design. I think it’s in the readme or on the admin area under‘
   presentation’.
 * Hope I’ve been able to help.
 * EDIT: It can’t have taken THAT long to type all of this up :S

 * I believe you can use WordPress for your website.
 * “a few static pages with some fixed info about the project.”
 * You can create these pages with WordPress 1.5. Log in and click on “Manage.”
Then click on “Pages” in the second navigation. Add your static pages that way.
 * “3 dynamic parts/sections: news, schedules and auditions”
    Wordpress can handle
the “news” section. That would be your main blog. For schedules and auditions,
you would need to add a little PHP scripting to your site. Ideally, you may want
the schedule and auditions in a database of some sort.
 * “they want visitors to be able to comment”
    Wordpress allows commenting on the
blog (in this case, the news section.) If you want it for every section, you
will need to add a little bit of PHP scripting as well.
 * “I’m good at the XHTML/CSS part but know (as yet) very little of php. Oh yeah,
as much as I like Kubrick, I’m doing a completely different design. Can I code
my page and then drop in the tags (like you can in pmachine for example)?”
 * That would be a theme. You can create it and then drop it into WordPress. You
would upload it to wp-content/themes and then to edit, login and go to “Presentation-
   >Theme Editor.”
 * I hope I answered some of your questions… 🙂

 * The “3 dynamic parts” part would be easy enough to accomplish as well. Some conditional
statements in the theme’s `index.php` or even `single.php` pages would allow
only specific categories to be listed on a given page – sort of replacing archives
for those categories, without affecting an actual `archive.php` page.
 * Sounds confusing, I guess, but I believe it can be done without tons of effort.

 * Wow, that’s a lot of answers in such short notice, colour me impressed 😉
    Ehm,
podz yeah sure I’d like some details. You can mail me off-forum if you’d prefer.
RustIndy, those conditional statements you mention are they part of the WordPress
toolset or do you mean straight php?
